Broken Heart.

This is from "An Unsealed Room", a blog in Israel.
Quote;
Yossi Klein HaLevi in The New Republic:

"This is a nation whose heart has been broken: by our failure to uproot the jihadist threat, which will return for another and far more deadly round; by the economic devastation of the Galilee and of a neighboring land we didn't want to attack; by the heroism of our soldiers and the hesitations of our politicians; by the young men buried and crippled in a war we prevented ourselves from winning; by foreign journalists who can't tell the difference between good and evil; by European leaders who equate an army that tries to avoid civilian causalities with a terrorist group that revels in them; by a United Nations that questions Israel's right to defend itself; and by growing voices on the left who question Israel's right to exist at all."
Be strong Israel!!

There is something I don't understand about Israeli policy.

Israel has a habit of successfully pushing back the enemy, at the same time acquiring territory (paying a heavy price to ahieve this) - only to then turn around and give it all back (1949, 1967, 2006).

If you look at the maps of Israel from bibical times, you will see that most of the acquired land was at one time part of Israel.
Only thru international pressure(U.N.)and, Israeli desire for peace,has these lands been given back.

Thanks for the reply.

Has Israel gained lasting peace through succumbing to international and UN pressure?

Could it be said that returning territory has instead encouraged terrorists in their objectives, and given them better vantage-points from which to attack Israel again?

If returning territory only sets the scene for further conflict and more loss of life on all sides, wouldn't it be better for both sides if Israel simply acquired all of its biblical/historical territory once-for-all - and then defended it where necessary?

It could save lives on both sides - even though it wouldn't please all of the international community or all of the Arabs.

Do you honestly believe there will be a day that Israel will simply re-acquire the bliblical/historical territory once and for all?
